Our 3 Adoption Options

Foster to Adopt

A "trial run" that we recommend for any adopter, but especially for adopters with children or other pets at home. You'll complete the application and pay the adoption fee up front, but you'll have a week or two with your new pet to make sure everybody is going to get along. Our Adoptions Counselors will call to follow up; if things don't work out during your foster to adopt period, you can bring the pet back and either try somebody else, or have your adoption fee refunded. If things do work out, you'll finalize your adoption.

Adopted Pending Surgery

Very occasionally, a pet may be adopted before it has had a chance to be spayed or neutered - or before it is big enough to undergo surgery. In those instances, your adoption will be listed as "Adopted Pending Surgery." This means that you are committed to adopting the pet as if the adoption was final; however, the completion of the spay or neuter surgery is required in our contract and you will not officially have ownership of the pet until it is fixed. Our Adoptions Counselors will take care of scheduling your pet's surgery with the VCA Woodford Animal Hospital - all you have to do is show up!

Finalized Adoption

Straight-up, plain-and-simple adoption. You have picked your pet, you are confident it will get along with any kids or pets you have at home, you know it's the right personality and energy level for you, you're ready for all the training and exercise and cleaning up that comes along with it. Once you finalize your adoption, you can still return the pet to us if it doesn't end up working out, but you will not receive a refund.
